Character Name: Selim Bradley/Pride
Character Canon: Fullmetal Alchemist Manga/Brotherhood
Canon Point: Ch.106/Ep.61
Age: Appearance of a 7 year old child, but is well over 300 years old.
Crime: Remorseless. Merciless. Open to mod choice as well. He's done so many crimes under the sun that I can't settle on one, all incredibly unexpected from a "child."
Background:
Canon Wiki. Ignore 2003 anime portion.
CRAU from Empatheias
Personality: There are two sides to this character's personalty. One is the adopted son of Fuhrer King Bradley, Selim Bradley, the other is the first Homunculus, Pride.
As Selim, he acts just like any well behaved child would at his age. He’s cheerful, optimistic, and curious about the world around him, especially alchemy. He's usually seen wanting to gather as much knowledge as he can about alchemy, state alchemists, and various related subjects like alkahestry. Sometimes his over eagerness gets him to say things without considering it can come off offensive or blunt. A good example of this is when he first met Edward and started calling him various short remarks, just so he could see that he really did get mad when called short. He doesn't mean any harm from it, he's just excited to meet one of his idols! He's a huge fan of the Elric brothers, admiring Edward in particular, because he became a State Alchemist at such a young age. Basically, if Edward can become a state alchemist at a young age, so could Selim. The reason why Selim is so determine to learn everything about alchemy is because he wants to become a State Alchemist and be able to help his own father one day. He loves his parents and especially looks up to his father. He wrote an essay on his father for school, practically hero worshiping him. Inspired by King Bradley, he hopes that one day he too can support his father by becoming a State Alchemist and set a good example to everyone in the military. Unfortunately, this is nothing more than a facade.
The person known as Selim Bradley is nothing more than a false human identity, likely one of many, given by Father, so that Pride could blend in with humans during various eras. No one would think twice that a mere child was up to anything, which allowed Pride to gather and pass information outside of the military.
Unlike how he acts as Selim, Pride is much crueler and sadistic towards others. Like the sin he's named after, he's arrogant and has a superiority complex over everyone. It doesn't help that he is the first homunculus Father created and the most powerful of his siblings, further feeding into his ego. The only person he takes order from is Father, eeryone else is beneath him, even his own siblings. He feels no remorse from killing others and if he has to, he is willing to murder his own siblings to survive. During his first confrontation with the Elric brothers, he consumed Gluttony in order to take his philosopher stone and replenish his own strength. Everyone is a pawn to him, to be used until they are no longer of any worth to him or Father. Because of this, he tends to mock others, toys with them in a fight and never taken seriously enough. Overconfidence is generally what leads him to make mistakes as he doesn't believe he can do anything wrong. So when the enemy does something unexpected and he starts to lose, he is quick to anger, making irrational decisions and refusing to admit others are capable of besting him. Several times when he had underestimated the enemy and believed he had the upper hand, it led to him to be weakened, captured and ultimately his death. In his desperation to survive, he tries to take Edward's body as his new container, a human that he despises and calls weak. Even Kimblee steps in to stop him as he basically contradicted himself, lowering himself to that of a weak human rather than die as a homunculus.
While he does have the capabilities to take charge, he is still following Father's will in the end. When Edward asked him why he would continue to listen to Father, eventhough he neglected to notice he was injured, Pride defensively responded back that that was what a good son would do. His aggressive retort, while obviously hurt by the truth, also hints that he likely didn't know any better. All he knew was what Father knew best.
Despite how much he boasts about humans being the weaker race, he has shown a side of himself where he wasn't devoid of human desires. Having only known what having a father was like, he had never experienced having a mother until Mrs. Bradley. His time "playing house" has given Pride an interesting aspect of being in a mostly proper family. He has admitted to Alphonse that his time with Mrs. Bradley and being in that family had been good memories for him. In his last moments as Pride, the memories he recalled was not the image of Father, but of Mrs. Bradley and Wrath. This showed that they left a much bigger impact on him than his own creator, implying that the false family life was more real to him than anything else. To be loved, cared for, and truly recognized for his achivements, that was what Pride desired whether he knew it or not.
CRAU from Empatheias:
Pride had the opportunity to coexist with people who knew of his secrets and was unable to simply kill or escape from them. He was exposed to those willing to try and help him, despite his violent past and insistence that he didn't need their pity. Mrs. Bradley also arrived in Empatheias and learns the truth about him. Despite how much he pushes her away, she stayed by his side, wanting to understand him and show compassion, even when he would initially attack her.
At one point, Pride lost all sense of self and to his emotions that turned him into a true monster full of hatred. Towards the people who wronged him? Or perhaps it was self loathing manifesting after all of his failures. Mrs. Bradley was part of the team who managed to reach out to him and her determination to save him, despite everything, becomes a turning point for him.
He is trying to learn how to experience things with others, trying to understand instead of seeing others as insignificant. Be more honest with what he wants, instead of what Father wants. The last thing he managed to do before being sent home, was give his mother a hug after she had a traumatic experience. It was the first time since she arrived to Empatheias that he got to close to her like that. Though he still acts too proudly to admit he may like something he sees as weak or silly. Basically, he's gradually toning down on the "I'm too cool for this" atittude.
There's always a chance any development could revert as the people who strongly influenced him aren't here, and he was left at a critical moment of his development. Continue down this new path created for him? Or return to what he once was.
Abilities:
Pride's shadow has multiple abilities and attributes to them.
- The ability to cut through anything as strong as steel. He cannot cut through harden carbon-based material.
- The ability to control others and change form (Tendrils, sharp spikes, shield, etc). Possession is only possible through a blood relative. Ex. Controlling Alphonse Elric's armor and being able to mimic his voice.
- The ability to consume and assimilate the abilities of others. Ex: Gaining Gluttony's sense of smell and hunger, the Gold Tooth Doctor's knowledge of human transmutation alchemy. (ability assimilation can be nerfed or ask permission from player).
- His child appearance is just a container to hold the shadows and his true form. Both container and shadows are extremely resilient. He has been hit by a car, mauled by a chimera and still came out without a scratch. Far as I'm aware, he doesn't bleed either since the body is just a container. He starts to fall apart as his shadows are "killed off".
- Able to see beyond the human limit through his shadow. Theshadow's range is limited to his container's current position and its surroundings. The length is really ambiguous though, but I say about....the length of a football field at full strength. He can also speak through his shadows. His shadows has also been seen able to cover a great distance in a short amount of time.
He cannot use shadows in complete darkness and requires some source of light. At the same time, sudden flashes of light, like from a flashbomb, will cause the shadows to dissapate.
He gain knowledge of hand-to-hand and unarm combat for self defense purposes during his time in Empatheias.
While not an ability, just a little extra note for others:
In FMA, Xingese are capable of sensing the life flow and energy known as Chi that is present in all living things and the earth itself (the dragon pulse). As Homunculi are made up of thousands of souls trapped in the Philosopher stone, those who can sense the life energy of others will sense this anomaly. Generally the feeling is described as foul, heavy and unsettling. Characters who have similar abilities that can sense life energy may likely notice Pride's odd make-up.
Animals will also react poorly around homunculi. Animal instincts tell them they're a threat and to avoid at all cost.
Inventory: Besides the clothes he's wearing, a scarf and a pocket notebook.
